Ketamine-assisted psychotherapyin Ontario.

The psychotherapy side of KAP with Sarah Cushing, RP (CRPO #15706): preparation, support, and integration, alongside a collaborating clinic that assesses, prescribes, and monitors the medicine.

What KAP actually is

The medicine opens a window. The therapy is what you do with it.

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy pairs a medically supervised ketamine session with structured psychotherapy before and after. It is often considered when depression, PTSD, or entrenched patterns have not shifted with talk therapy alone.

Two roles, kept clearly separate: a prescriber handles the medical care, and I handle the psychotherapy. Responses vary considerably between people, and no particular outcome can be promised.

Phase one

Preparation

Before any medicine session, we spend time on the groundwork: your history, your intentions, what your nervous system does under stress, and what support looks like on a hard day.

We also talk plainly about what the experience may and may not do, and how we will handle it if the session brings up more than expected.

Phase two

Medical assessment and the medicine session

Ketamine is assessed, prescribed, administered, and monitored by an authorized medical prescriber at a collaborating clinic that meets the requirements for legal prescription in Ontario. I do not provide, source, or administer any substance.

My role is the psychotherapy component. Depending on the care plan and the clinic's protocol, that can include therapeutic support surrounding the medicine session itself.

Phase three

Integration

Integration is where most of the durable change happens. What surfaced during the experience gets translated into something usable: relationships, boundaries, grief, patterns you can now see from a different angle.

We work with EMDR, parts work, and somatic attention here, at whatever pace the material asks for.

Common questions

KAP in Ontario, answered plainly.

Is ketamine therapy legal in Ontario?
Ketamine is a controlled substance that may be prescribed off-label by an authorized medical prescriber. I collaborate with a clinic that meets the requirements for legal prescription and monitoring. The psychotherapy is provided by me; the medical care is provided by the clinic.
Do you provide the ketamine?
No. No substances are provided, sourced, administered, or facilitated by me or by Liminal Bloom Counselling and Consulting. Prescribing and medical monitoring sit entirely with the collaborating clinic's prescriber.
Who is this not appropriate for?
Suitability is a medical decision made by the prescriber, and certain cardiac, psychiatric, and substance-use histories may rule it out. Screening happens before anything is scheduled.
Can I do preparation and integration therapy only?
Yes. Many clients work with me for psychedelic preparation and integration without a KAP program, including integration of experiences that happened elsewhere. That work is psychotherapy, not facilitation.
Is it covered by insurance?
The psychotherapy portion is often reimbursable under extended health benefits that cover a Registered Psychotherapist, and direct billing is available with some insurers. Medical costs at the clinic are billed separately by the clinic.
Do I need to be in Ottawa?
Preparation and integration psychotherapy is available virtually anywhere in Ontario, and in person at 100 Centrepointe in Nepean/Ottawa. Medicine sessions take place at the collaborating clinic.
